Michael "Mikey" Puente, 38, returned home to the Lord and his beloved mother (Donna) and brother (Freddie) on July 31, 2017. Mikey was born October 23, 1978 in Bakersfield, CA to Michael Puente and Donna Ward. Mikey attended primary school in the Bakersfield City School District and graduated from Foothill High School in 1996. Mikey was a proud member of the Foothill High Trojan football team playing fullback and linebacker positions. As a young child, Mikey enjoyed the outdoors. He loved trips to the beach, riding quads, listening to music and going to the movies.
Most of all, Mikey enjoyed being with his father (Michael) and grandfather (Refugio) while they operated the family trucking business. Riding on forklifts, tractors and big rigs became a passion for him. Mikey worked for his grandfather, for 20+ years, as a truck driver and forklift/tractor operator.
Mikey was the eldest of sixteen (16) grandchildren. He took that responsibility seriously. Always looking out and being protective of his younger cousins. Mikey loved his family and friends very much. Though he had his fair share of hardships, Mikey's heart was always in the right place. He was always respectful toward people, and especially respectful toward his family. The name "Puente" meant the world to him!
Mikey is survived by his father Michael (Denise) Puente, brother Armando Puente, brother Zachary Puente, grandparents Refugio & Olivia Puente, uncle Bobby (Jackie) Puente, uncle Art (Letty) Puente, aunt Stella (Michael) Hinojos, aunt Yvonne (Eric) Puente-Martinez, aunt Marina (Robert) Singh as well as many cousins and extended family. A special thank you to Victoria Buccat who helped raise Mikey during his younger years.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 23rd, 5-9pm with Rosary to follow, 7pm at Mish Funeral Home (north Oildale area), 120 Minner Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93308.
