Michael Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 26, 2014.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul;
He leadeth me in the paths
Of righteousness for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; for thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
In the presence of mine enemies;
Thou anointest my head with oil;
My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life; and I will dwell
In the house of the Lord forever.

Well Mike, my chance to catch up after so many years has passed but you are not forgotten. I found out about your passing late in the game but know that you were a good buddy and great story teller. Meeting you at that Burling apartment in Chicago was a hoot of a time. You taught me to do a beer budget on Black Label canned beer and it helped us survive being young in a big city with the good and the bad. I will always remember you fondly. Rest in peace dear friend.

One of my best of my best friends and most humble person that I've ever met... You were the only person at one point in my life who truly cared for me and my well being. Mr. Adams you will forever be in my heart and stay on my mind. Your still here with me as we listen to Howling Wolf, sipping on some scotch and toasting a couple of pabst blue ribbons. I will continue your legacy of encouraging love, peace and understanding. Our memories will forever be shared with the universe my friend. Love you.... Stay cool babe!...

I just realized that the photo of Mike and I is in the slideshow...what an honor. I would love to get a copy of that photo somehow.

Mike and I met in 2003 when I was looking for a roadtrip buddy for the drive from Seattle, WA to Okemah, OK for the annual Woodyfest. I remember picking him up at his house and his mother taking a picture of us both before we hopped into my 1989 Toyota Van to make the rest of the trip to OK. Mike was a gifted listener and we exchanged many stories - mostly about music. He had to endure my conversation on the way back from Woodyfest where, it had turned out I met my future wife. He was the first to hear about it. We remained pretty constant pen pals over the years where every time I got a letter or card, I would admire Mike's penmanship. I was culling my box of letters this weekend and found several of Mike's letters and felt that there was a reason we had lost touch. I was terribly saddened to just find out about his passing. Mike occupied a positive place on this planet and I will never forget him. That trip is one I will cherish forever. Godspeed Mike.

Goodbye friend,
We weren't friends in the begining but, will wonders never cease!!(LOL) I deem it an honor to have called you friend. Thanks for all the encouragement to go back to school, for correcting my grammar, for the talks about politics, crises in the world, music, and books. I remember I was so excited about a book I had read and I started telling you about it and you finished my sentence.LOL I always told you that you were in the wrong profession. You will be missed and may you rest in peace.

I worked with Mike in the early '90s at Social Services in Woodland Park. From my 1st encounter with Mike I adored him. His wit, sly smile, great laugh and his politics! We talked 2-3 times a month and kept trying to "do lunch." He loved his friends and wanted us all to be happy and healthy. Mike - I wish you had had good health. We love you and miss your friendship. Well Mike.
Here you are on the internet in all it's glory (So to speak).
You can't do anything about it. I know you are distressed. Unable to say a thing! But what can we do? We must share you with the world.

If you knew Mike, he would have something to say, as that was what his life was about. He said and stood for something important and was damn proud of it. He lived his life very comfortably without any electronic communication, although he deeply loved the history of music and media. He was completely involved in both.

He financially supported and encouraged local music and talent. He nearly single handedly kept several "record" stores financially solvent. He wrote longhand daily and had a daily subscription to the New York Times, as his local Colorado papers had "failed him". He often wrote letters to the editor to express his opinion; ether to respond to another writer or an article that had been written by someone in the paper who didn't fully understand what he was writing about.

Mike had a voracious appetite for news, politics, music, art and his beloved Chicago Cubbies, ( God please rest their soul. A lifetime isn't enough time.) He was also proud of his single share of stock in the Green Bay Packers, which he framed and placed proudly on his wall.

Never short on opinion; he drew others to his many causes and loved to "stir the pot", (So to speak). I know he would swell with pride, that he was preceded in death by many others.

He always called my wife on her birthday, and dubbed her "Lilly Von Lilly." We will both miss his calls and many post cards!

Fare well my friend. Your influence in this world was fine!

Oh Mikey....where do I begin to tell you Good Bye? You came into my life when I was the most lost I have ever been and embraced me and helped me realize that life goes on and so do we. You were like a Dad, a brother, a buddy, and most of all a friend. I count myself lucky to have known you and been blessed enough to have our paths cross. Gone too soon, my friend.

The Mike I knew at St. Mary's was a kind, witty gentleman who went out of his way to help me get through Art Class. He has touched many lives and now, may he rest in peace.

I went to school with Mike for 12 years. We used to joke that our first date was with each other because he took me to the Blinky show when we were in first grade. Although I have not been in touch with Mike for awhile, I remember him as a very intelligent, humorous person who had the gift of gab and could debate most anything.

I graduated high school with Mike and lost track of him for most of the following 30 years. I got back in touch with him through mutual old high school friends. We would talk regularly and used to go out to breakfast at least once a month. We planed several get togethers this last year but his health got in the way. He was the one that kept me informed about several of our classmates that he was in contact with.
I once told Mike that he was a master of the absurd (mostly trivia) and he said it was one of the nicest compliments he had ever had. A month a go I had a chance to bring him a movie that we had discussed and I let life get in the way. A lesson learned that I hope I remember this time. He has been in my prayers and thoughts for years and I will miss him.

Mike and I hung around with one another in grade school and high school, and had lots and lots of fun. I have so many fond memories of him. He recently recontacted me as a friend of his needed some private investigation services, and Mike asked for several mailings of my business cards to hand out to his friends and acquaintances. He was also keen on promoting brother Danny's Adams Ribs restaurant in Pueblo. So, even as Mike suffered with his medical issues, he was all about helping others, which is how many of us remember him fondly. What a great guy; I will miss him! Dave Pettinari

Mike Adams was my friend. I was the backup goalie while he was the starter in high school. He taught me all the tricks. It was he who egged me on as I jumped out the window. He was a voracious reader. Everything I read, he read twice, even the calculus books. What is two times zero? Now he rests with his maker. Let's hope he knows the answers to all the theories and conspiracies. But there is one puzzle that I still don't know: Who is Gomez?

It is sad Mike is not with us. I hope we will gather to celebrate a life well lived.
