Michael Allen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 13, 2011.

Michael Dale Allen, 68, of Amarillo died Sunday, June 12, 2011, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home's Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mike was born April 26, 1943, in Roaring Springs, to Oland D. and Sarah Allen. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and a man of strength, who despite not being able to see, had a passion for creating and building scale models of all kinds.
Mike was a founding member of the Golden Spread Modelers and a faithful member of the Texas Car Modelers Club, actively participating in the Make-A-Wish car show annually. His love of creating shined through as some of his work is displayed at Tradewinds Elementary School. He also loved watching bull riding, NASCAR and fixing things. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oland D. and Sarah Allen; and a grandson, K.W. Savage. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Bobbye Allen; two daughters, Kerry Morgan and husband Rodney of Amarillo and Terry Brock and husband Michael of Alaska; a son, Jerry Allen and wife Kathina of Jarrell; grandchildren, Leah Loflin and husband Wes, Amber Morgan and R.J. Morgan, all of Amarillo, Dillan Savage of Oklahoma, Nyk Allen of Nashville, Tenn., Andrew, Malachi, Sullivan and Bryson , all of Jarrell, Michael, Matthew, Miles and Jaqueline Brock, all of Alaska; two great-grandchildren, Gage and Abigail Rose Loflin; a sister, Theresa Coombes and husband Pete of Amarillo; and two brothers, George Allen and partner Jimmy of Fort Worth and Greg Allen and wife Cheryl of Amarillo. We also want to remember a special member of our family, Debbie Howat and husband Bob, for being a part of this special journey. The family suggests memorials be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Amarillo.

So sorry to hear of the loss of Dale..As kids we had many good times together at Grandma's house. As we grew older and went our ways we did not see much of each other since I moved to No. California.

From everything Debbie told us about Big Mikey we knew him to be a hell of man and the world is diminished by his loss.
I am glad he has found peace. Let his legacy be the love he inspired in all those around him.

Only you and I know all the memories we share as brothers. We went to the same elementary and high school. We worked at the same business for many years. We went to Seattle together. We built a telescope together. You helped me bury my dog when he got run over. We shared family, meals and friends. I was acolyte at your wedding. You helped me work on my cars. I set with your kids more times than I can count. When I discovered that I was gay, you and Bobbye loved me just the same. You treated my partner with usmost respect and welcomed us into your home.
If I wrote everything down it would fill a book. I will see you again in a few years and we can celebrate our reunion at the throne of our heavenly Father. There is no good bye only a see you soon.

Dale,
I always looked up to you and was proud to call you my big brother. But you weren't only my brother, you were also my friend. I knew you to be a good person, kind-hearted, and a true gentleman. I have a lot of fond memories growing up with you and spending time with you. You helped me out many times and I learned a lot from you and I greatly appreciate it. I know that you are now at peace with God and are with Mom and Dad. I will miss you and I love you! Greg and Cheryl

I met Mike at the car modelers meeting. I admired him of all things he was able to do. He was an inspiration to me. He reminded me of my late father. Mike was blunt and to the point with "It is what it is" attitude. I will always remember if Mike could do it being blind I can do it as well. Thanks for all the encouragement and dedication.

I met Mike for the first time in 1986, when I was 15 years old. Mike welcomed me into the model club and always encouraged me. When I got out of the USAF and moved back to Amarillo, the first person I called was Mike, asking when the next meeting was going to happen. Mike will be missed by all of us in the club.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time.

I didn't get to Thank You for all the wonderful adventures you were a big part of like our first trip to the Panhandle Museum in Canyon and the time we went to Six Flags and who can forget the adventure of going to see the big water at Padra Island that summer. You have been such a blessing to me and my family. I love you and will miss you but pray we will meet in glory. Peggy
