WEST COLUMBIA - Michael E. Grimes, 63, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 after an 8 year struggle with kidney cancer. He was the husband of Rhonda Humphries Grimes and son of the late George and Katherine Grimes of Marion SC. Mike graduated from Marion High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He worked as an industrial mechanic at Carolina Eastman and Devro-Teepak before starting MRK Lawn Services in 1998. He was a member of Springdale Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, Katie Richardson and husband Joseph of Blythewood; grandson, Bobby Richardson, and was looking forward to the birth of his second grandson in October. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy Grimes and wife Joyce of Ballentine.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 N.Lake Drive, Lexington SC. Graveside services will be held at Frederick Memorial Gardens, 986 Chesnee Highway, Gaffney SC, at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014.
The family offers sincere appreciation to Dr. Steven Madden and the staff at Lexington Oncology. They would also like to thank Trish, Derrick, and all the other "angels" who took such good care of him these past several weeks.
Mike loved spending time with friends and family, especially his grandson Bobby and his dog Scooter. He also enjoyed camping, reading, Gamecock sports, and helping people. Mike will be remembered for his devotion to his loved ones, his quiet strength, and his respect for all people, his generosity, and his selfless nature. He led by example and was the first person to offer a helping hand to those in need. The world was a much better place because he was in it, and his loss is profound. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Springdale Baptist Church, 357 Wattling Road, W.Columbia, SC 29170 or Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O.
