Biography

Michael was a longtime resident of Las Vegas and a first generation Greek. He came from a very close, loving family. He was born to Theodore Michelas and Eve Michelas who were both born on the island of Crete, Greece and were longtime residents of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1928. He had two sisters, Ann Campbell, who predeceased Michael, and Patricia Robison. The Michelas family moved to Las Vegas in 1940. Michael went to 5th Street Elementary School and Las Vegas High School. When he was 18, Michael moved to New York City where he attended and graduated from the New School of Social Research. He went to school with the likes of Tony Curtis, Bea Arthur and Harry Bellafonte. Michael appeared in off Broadway shows and was going to sign a contract with Warner Brothers Studios for two pictures. Before that could happen however, he was drafted and served in Japan during the Korean War where he was trained in, and sent, Morse code. After returning from the Korean War, Michael went to California to pursue acting but decided to go to UCLA instead, where he graduated with a degree in accounting. Michael then returned to Las Vegas and became a stockbroker. He and Bud Walker managed the Utah-based stock brokerage firm, Wilson & Davis Co. for approximately 30 years. Michael also helped with the family-owned business of MCR Apartments. The Michelas family was one of the few first founding families of St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church in Las...
