Michael Prisco Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 25, 2013.

Former Lakewood Police Chief Michael Francis Prisco,83, passed away peacefully August 24,2013 at his home in Lakewood. Michael was born in New York, NY, and was the son of the late Catherine and Anthony Prisco. He resided most of his life in Lakewood, NJ where he attended Lakewood public schools. Michael later went on to attain his Bachelor's degree from Thomas Edison College. Michael was a true American patriot and dedicated public servant. During the Korean Conflict, he proudly served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. Following his service, Michael received FBI Academy accreditation in the 1970s. Chief Prisco took pride in his work at the Lakewood Police Department, and during retirement he was an instructor for the Ocean County Police Academy. Michael had an appreciation for fine food, good wine, classic music, and a well-told story or joke. As someone with immense artistic ability, he was an avid photographer and painter. Many knew him as a talented man with great intellect and interesting stories. Although a private person, he enjoyed being in a roomful of amiable people. He could be stern at times which made him a respected leader, but also misunderstood by some. Nonetheless, in his own way, Michael appreciated those who showed him kindness and he will be greatly missed.
Michael Prisco is survived by his beloved daughter Katherine Prisco and her mother Bjorg, as well as Lisa Prisco, Gary Prisco, brother Anthony Prisco and his wife Ellen Prisco. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 6-9 pm at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. His funeral service will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the funeral home, and will continue with a committal ceremony at 10 a.m. in the cemetery chapel at the BG William C. Doyle NJ Veteran's Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd, Wrightstown, NJ 08562. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Lakewood American Legion Post 166, 1256 River Ave Lakewood, NJ 08701.

I'll remember Mike with love and respect, as will my children. He watched them grow up and was like a second dad to them way back to the Regent Diner and What's Your Racquet days. May he rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear about my cousin Micahel's death but it is obvious that he left a beautiful legacy. Although I had not seen him since I was young, I am proud to be related to him, and can see from his obituary, some family traits that are shared among other family members, which is a blessing.
My love and sympathy go out to all of his surviving family members, especially Tony and Ellen, who have been my connection to that branch of my family.

Michael was a father and a friend to me for many, many years. My childhood memories will remain in my heart forever, as my love will always remain. He was a man of few words, yet easy to understand and love. Michael was handsome and charming and so smart! The most wonderful thing about Michael was his great sense of humor! Those of us who were lucky enough to have had Michael in our lives, loved him very much and he will be greatly missed.
