Michele C Knapp, a resident of Fresno for 44 years, died June 4, 2017 at Saint Agnes Medical Center after a four year long courageous battle with cancer. She was 79 years old at the time of her passing, and was surrounded by her loving family.
Michele was active in the community, volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister for Saint Anthony's and as a parishioner of Holy Spirit, and as a longtime member of Fresno Republican Women Federated. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed entertaining family and friends at home. She will be dearly missed for her wry sense of humor and love of her family.
Born to John and Margaret McCarthy in Detroit, Michigan, Michele is survived by her husband of 57 years, John D Knapp II, as well as her four children, Julie Knapp Matoian, John D Knapp III and his wife Jacqueline Knapp, Katie Knapp Cox and her husband Mark Cox, and Colleen Jansen and her husband Mark Jansen. Michele was grandmother to 5 grandchildren, Mark Matoian, Nick Matoian, John D Knapp IV, Megan Knapp, Caden Cox and 2 great grandchildren. Michele is also survived by her two sisters, Mary Colleen Francis and Margaret DeRolph.
Whitehurst Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. A Memorial Mass will take place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on June 21, 2017 at 10 am.
