Mike V. Arredondo answered the call of the Lord on March 23, 2013 in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 70. The proud son of Severo and Eliza Arredondo, Mike was born May 8, 1942 in Bryan, Texas. He was a devoted family patriarch, mentor, leader, and always an example of a good man. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1966 and was a lifelong Aggie. He was swept off his feet by the love of his life, Tina Arredondo, in Corpus Christi, Texas. They married November 19, 1968,
and built a beautiful life together. He improved the lives of countless children and families through his lifelong work at the Department of Health and Human Services, Head Start. He was an avid gardener, continuously worked to improve his community, and always fought for what was right. Mike deeply loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife Tina; two children, Michael and Tessa; beloved brother, Julio; and dearest sister, Mary. The family would like to give special thanks for the loving care of his caregivers at Methodist Hospital and Odyssey Hospice, and for the caring and compassionate treatment from Dr. Carlos Taboada and Rev. Ben Molina, Parochial Vicar, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan. Inurnment will follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery. A Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m.

Tina, I am so glad to hear from you so that I assure you that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers more so than ever. You see, my husband, Jack, passed on October 28, 2013. Therefore, I feel that my grief for you and your family is more understanding since I have that grief, too. However, among my remembrances of working with Mike as my supervisor are all about his work ethic and his love of his family. Take care and know that I believe Mike looks down on you and your family and holds you close. I certainly feel that way about Jack and they both shared many of the same qualities. Blessings always, Evelyn Golz Burleson

TAPS will forever ring loud for this Aggie who was so devoted to improving the quality of life for those less fortunate. The world was a better place with Mike here. May you be comforted in knowing that our Lord had a higher calling for him. He will forever remain in the hearts of many many that knew him. What a GREAT GUY!

Mike was such a fine person and supervisor. I was one of the original 6 members of the Office of Economic Oppportunity in Austin to form the Office of Child Development, Head Start Divison, in 1969, I was there the first day when Mike came on board. He became my team leader not too long thereafter. He was always fair, knowledgeable and a hard worker. When I left to remarry in 1981and move to Port Lavaca, Mike was among those I missed the most. My son Bryan was born in 1974, so all of our children were about the same age. I remember fondly when your first child was born and your poodle got jealous and started having dental problems. Take care and know that you and your family are in my heart, thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Blessings, Evelyn Golz Burleson

Goodbye Mike. You were a great, great friend since we met in 1970 when we both moved to Dallas to accept Federal jobs. Throughout the years we remained good friends and even shared one very important event in our lives, when we ran across each other at Presbyterian Hospital and to our surprise, both of our wives had given birth to boys on the same day. It has been my pleasure to work together with you for the last 11 years at ACF.You were a great mentor and helped me to navigate the ropes here at work. I know your beloved wife and two children will miss you greatly as I will, but by the grace of GOD our sorrow is lessened by knowing that you have entered into your eternal reward. Thank you for being my friend, and for all the help you gave me at work. May GOD comfort your wife, your son and your daughter at this most difficult time.

To the Family: Rest assured "Mikie" as I called him in the Office will be resting well with our Lord, for I know he carried himself the way the Lord wanted him to and he has a definite place in heaven, so Dear Wife Tina (for which he scheduled his life around and spoke about dearingly), Children (Tessa, his daughter for which I always call Princess because she was so beautiful and was her Dad's heart)and(Michael his Son, for which he was so very proud of)and other family members of Mike, we loved him at his ACF/Head Start Office. The Head Start Communities all over Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Arkansas will miss him, but no one will miss him more than his coworkers and retired coworkers that really loved and appreciated him as an individual and his work. God Bless your Entire family. My prayers will always include you. Be trusting of the Lord, given time you will heal, the pain will be replaced with wonderful memories. May God Bless you.
