Mike Meston, 76, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center West-Lakes in West Des Moines.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E. First St., Ankeny). Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.
Michael Carl Meston was born on January 15, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa to Donald and Corrine (Fenlon) Meston. He received his education from Johnston High School, graduating in the class of 1959. Following graduation, Mike proudly served in the Iowa National Guard.
On October 25, 1969, Mike was united in marriage to Helen "Beth" Elizabeth Robertson. The couple made their home in Des Moines and were blessed with five children Heidi, Michael II, Andrew, Sarah, and Nathan. Mike made his career as an engineer with Northwestern Bell, AT&T, Lucent Technology, and Avaya.
Mike had a passion for model railroading and trains. He was an avid NASCAR fan and traveled with his children to various races throughout the country. Mike enjoyed gardening and fishing. Most of all, he treasured the many memories that were created with Beth, his children, and grandchildren.
Mike will be deeply missed by his children, Heidi (Danny) Wallace, Michael (Jennifer) Meston II, Andrew (Amy) Meston, Sarah Meston, and Nathan (Nicki) Meston; grandchildren, Riley Wallace, Amanda Meston, Chase Meston, Henry Meston, Kate Meston, and Zack Meston; brothers-in-law, Roger Blair and John (Michele) Robertson; nieces and nephews, Andrea Blair, Rand Blair, Erin Robertson, Andrea Robertson, and Dana Kennard; and neighbor, Grandma Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beth Meston; parents, Donald and Corrine Meston; sister, Linda Blair; and nephew, Scotty Blair.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for the Beth Meston Memorial Scholarship Fund.

We were shocked to hear of Mike's hospitalization and his passing. Over the years, Mike shared info on folks and happenings in Johnston. He will certainly be missed. Donna and Bill Lohman

I'm sure sorry to see that Mike passed away. I'v seen him at Sonny's a number of times and we always had a good conversation with jokes and laughs. I served with Mike in the 234th Signal Battalion in the Iowa Guard. He was always happy. I'm going to miss his banter!
