Mildred Chambers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 12, 2017.

Mildred Jeane Shepherd Chambers peacefully entered the presence of God on September 8, 2017. She was 94. She was the daughter of Myrtle Garrett Shepherd and Roy J. Shepherd.

She was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida and lived most of her life in Jacksonville, Florida. She was active in the Garden Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, Inner Wheel and Riverside Baptist Church. She was beloved by all who knew her for her great faith, her love of gardening and her love of animals. She was the matriarch of a large family and took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was the consummate encourager and always looked forward to what lay ahead in her life's journey. Most of all, she was always, always a lady. She has left an incredible legacy for all her family to follow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Arthur Ralph Chambers; her parents; and two sisters, Margaret S. Haufler and Mary S. Joca.
Survivors include her children, Judy Chambers Russell (Greg) of Boone, NC, Alan Chambers (Becky) of Decatur, GA, Susan Chambers Daniel (Ken) of Athens, GA, Janet Chambers (Jim Couch) of Athens, GA, Daniel Chambers (Linda) of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Dr. McKenzie Daniel (Lindsey) of Athens, Jennifer Russell Serino (Jason) of Apex, NC, Garrett Daniel (Andrea) of Decatur, GA, Claire Chambers Hegarty (Matt) of Decatur, GA, Meg Chambers Campbell (Jonathan) of Washington, DC, Collier Daniel Jones (Bo) of Prattville, AL, Jackson Chambers and Jordan Chambers of Virginia Beach, VA; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Alice S. Powell of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Kindred Hospice, Care to Continue and her personal caregivers, Vicki, Cindy, Paula, Jennifer, Caroldene and Rosa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Florida Baptist Children's Home, the Athens Area Humane Society or a charity of your choice.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Mount Olive cemetery in Altha, Florida at a later date.

Steve and Betty Hite

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Mildred Chambers. She was a dear friend with whom we shared many wonderful times at local and state veterinary activities, as well as those Georgia/Auburn football games at Auburn University. It was a pleasure to be in her company as she always had an even-natured, reassuring, and calm personality, and expressed a contagious love of life. She will be missed by many.
Fondly,
Steve and Betty Hite

Tom & Debbie Chandler

A time for condolences & of course sadness. However, I chose to remember all the moments of happiness & joy! Since I had the privilege to meet the Chambers Family, in 1954 - Doc as he was known to my Mom & Dad, & to me at a very young age & Millie (Mrs. Chambers to me) - were 2 of the most special people that I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Alan has been my lifelong friend & brother I never had. My thoughts are many & my words are inadequate to express my true feelings. May the Chambers Family swell with pride at this most difficult time. Doc & Millie are once again together for eternity. God speed Millie. Thank you for being such a special lady. Say "Hello!" To Doc for me!
