Mildred Lavina (Henshaw) Allen age 94, died October 4, 2010 in Haslett, MI. Mildred was born August 4, 1916 to John and Viola (Avery) Henshaw in Eckford Township, Calhoun County, MI. She married Ward Allen on June 15, 1936 in Angola, Indiana.
Ward and Mildred were engaged in farming on F Drive South near Marshall, MI from 1944-1977. Mildred was also employed as a teacher at various rural, one room schoolhouses around Calhoun Co. for 20 years. Following retirement, Ward and Mildred lived in Florida for a period of time, and then moved north again, residing near Hudson, MI.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ward; sister and brother-in-law, Ellen Murie and Norman Payne; and her son-in-law Harvey D. Teller. She is survived by her son, Richard J. (Margaret) Allen, Sr. of East Lansing, MI; daughter, Janice L. Teller of Litchfield, MI; two grandchildren, Tammy (Tony) Valdez of Clayton, MI, and Richard J. (Susan) Allen, Jr. of Adrian, MI; six great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Mildred's life will be held at Hudson First United Methodist Church, 420 W Main St., Hudson, Michigan on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hudson First United Methodist Church or to the Hospice of your choice. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing, Michigan.
