Mildred S. Elder, 94, of Booneville passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 22, 1920, in Booneville, MS to the late Glyton and Lucy Isbell Spain. She was a descendant of one of the pioneer families of Booneville and Prentiss County area. Mildred was a lifelong resident of Prentiss County where she attended and graduated from Wheeler High School. While in school, she was selected Most Beautiful as well as the Friendliest. Before retirement, Mildred worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital-PBX telephone operator and insurance clerk. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church...
Mildred S. Elder, 94, of Booneville passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 22, 1920, in Booneville, MS to the late Glyton and Lucy Isbell Spain. She was a descendant of one of the pioneer families of Booneville and Prentiss County area. Mildred was a lifelong resident of Prentiss County where she attended and graduated from Wheeler High School. While in school, she was selected Most Beautiful as well as the Friendliest. Before retirement, Mildred worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital-PBX telephone operator and insurance clerk. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and member of the choir. Mildred was an avid sports fan, a MSU fan, avid bridge player, and bread and cake baker. She was well known for her caramel cakes and sour dough bread. Mildred loved to entertain in her home especially cooking for family and friends. Despite adversities, she was a shining example to the Booneville community of what a good neighbor and citzen should be. Her gracious attitude and outlook were exemplary and positively impacted every life she touched. She was a selfless person always giving to help others in any way she could. Mildred will be missed, but her legacy of Love and caring that has touched so many will live on. She was crowned Queen of the Sesquicentennial Celebration.

A celebration of life service will be at Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 3:00 PM at McMillan Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Duncan, Dr. Lynn Jones, and Bro. Calvin Price will be officiating with the eulogy by Joey Langston. Burial will be in the Booneville Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Gloria of the home and Sherry Davis and husband Jerry of Columbus, MS; three grandchildren, Melissa Boleman of Peachtree City, GA, Gregory Davis and wife Valerie of Temple City, CA, and Candace Gibson and husband Jeffrey of Olive Branch, MS; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Doreen Elderof Wheeler, MS; several nieces, nephews, and a special cousin, Anne Isbell Holmes and husband Bill of Sevierville, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glynton and Lucy Isbell Spain.

Visitation will be Sunday May 4, 2014 noon till time for funeral service at McMillan Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Baptist Children's Home or Osborne Creek Baptist Church, 527 CR 7000, Booneville, MS 38829.
