Mildred Holland Lawrence, 84, of Martinsville, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was born in Axton, VA on October 13, 1928 to Drewry Willard Holland and Eula Clark Holland Shelton. After retiring from DuPont with 42 years of service, she became a real estate agent locally and in later years at Surfside Beach, SC. She was a member of Garden City Baptist Church in Garden City, SC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall P. Lawrence, Jr.; one brother, Willard Dudley "Bill" Holland; a niece, Sara Beth Holland and a nephew, Jeffrey Curry.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Lawrence Hopper of Surfside Beach, SC; two sons, Marshall Patrick "Pat" Lawrence, III and wife, Cindy M. Lawrence of Durham, NC; James Douglas "Doug" Lawrence and wife Tina M. Lawrence of Collinsville; five grandchildren, Amy E. Lawrence of Durham, NC, Kelly E. Strawberry of Raleigh, NC, Tiffani A. Lawrence of Collinsville, Vanessa L. Stike and Taylor M. Blackwell, both of Surfside Beach, SC; one great-grandchild, Ryleigh J. Trainor of Surfside Beach, SC; one sister, Frances H. Bledsoe and husband, Robert of Martinsville, two brothers, James M. "Jim" Holland and wife, Carolyn of Axton, Bobby M. Holland and wife, Linda of Danville.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 11:00 AM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. Dr. Michael Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home and other times at 1608 Mulberry Road in Martinsville.

Whenever I have thought of her through the years, it has always been first of her sitting in her brown chair holding court over the parade of young people passing through her home.
