Mindert "Maynard" Bokma, 88, of Forked River passed away Wednesday, April 4th at the VA New Jersey Health Care System in East Orange. He was born in Prospect Park and lived in Oakland and Waretown before moving to Forked River in 2005. Maynard worked most of his Life as a carpenter and later for Ramapo College. He was an Army veteran serving during World War II, in the Normandy Invasion with the mechanize calvary. He was captured in September 1944 and remained a POW until the end of the war. Maynard was an avid fisherman.
He is predeceased by his wife Gretrude (2005) and his son Maynard (1972). Surviving is his son Thomas C. Bokma of Forked River, a sister Tess DeWitt of Newton, a granddaughter Sharon Storms of Indiana, and many great grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, April 17th at 1:15 PM at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Road, Whiting, NJ.
