Miriam "Mimi" Brake Kemp went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2013. Mimi was born May 1, 1939 in Rocky Mountain, NC. She grew up in Portsmouth, VA, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School where she was crowned homecoming queen. Mimi moved to Jacksonville in 1965 to care for her ailing mother. Known for her generous and caring spirit, Mimi was happiest when she was helping others in the community and was known for feeding the homeless at Thanksgiving time, which affectionately earned her the nickname "Turkey Lady". Miriam "Mimi" Brake Kemp went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2013. Mimi was born May 1, 1939 in Rocky Mountain, NC. She grew up in Portsmouth, VA, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School where she was crowned homecoming queen. Mimi moved to Jacksonville in 1965 to care for her ailing mother.

Known for her generous and caring spirit, Mimi was happiest when she was helping others in the community and was known for feeding the homeless at Thanksgiving time, which affectionately earned her the nickname "Turkey Lady".
She was a devout Catholic who attended St. Paul's Catholic Church regularly, instilled the Catholic faith within her children and grandchildren, and witnessed with great joy, sharing God's love with all.

She is predeceased by her daughter, Miriam Dare Crouch. Mimi is survived by her husband of 33 years, Charles Holland Kemp; her children, Amber Lynette Crouch, Frederick Nicholas Crouch, VI, Holly Lynn Hudson (Thomas), Michael Charles Kemp (Cindy), Christopher Norman Kemp and Jennifer Lynn Murphy; and 3 brothers, numerous grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday, August 20 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach. Funeral Mass will be held 11am Wednesday, August 21 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 435 1st Ave. N., Jacksonville Beach.
