Mitchell M. Maichak Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 23, 2013.

Persistently striving to move onward and upward, Mitchell Mathew Maichak, 86, has taken the next step forward in the journey of life. Mitch initiated his journey in scenic Boonville, NY as the son of Walter and Veronica and brother to Ben, Tom, Joseph, and Cecilia. Devoted husband to Mary "Betty" Maichak, they immigrated to Del City, OK, shared 60 years of marriage, and raised five loving children including Mitch Jr, Shelly, Tina, Mark, and Erin, as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mitch's keen interest in the evolution and application of technology as well as his unyielding commitment to the US during WW II as a savvy aviation radioman, radarman, and occasional gunner earned him 3 distinguished medals from the US Navy. Following WWII, Mitch further served his country for 37 years, ultimately retiring as a Civil Servant logistics coordinator from Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, OK. Mitch, a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, VFH, and American Legion, past Chief and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, as well as devout member of the St. Paul Catholic Church parish, unselfishly supported communities near and far by donating his time, effort, and finances to several civic fundraising campaigns. Taking it all in stride during his civilian career, marriage, and service to community, Mitch also successfully completed the requirements to attain his Associate of Applied Science from then Oscar Rose University. Throughout his life, Mitch shared numerous pastimes with his family including fishing, bowling, golfing, shooting pool, traveling the globe, walking the dogs, tinkering with electronics and automobiles, playing cards, and indulging his sweet-tooth on German chocolate cake and pistachio ice-cream. Please join us in celebrating Mitch's storied life and accomplishments! Visitation will be held on Sunday February 24th from 2 to 5 pm at Sunny Lane Funeral Home, 4000 SE 29th St; Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday February 25th, 11 am, at St. Paul Apostle Catholic Church, 3901 S. Sunnylane Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations are graciously appreciated and can be made to the St. Paul's Memorial Fund.

Hi Uncle Mitch,

Congratulations upon being bestowed with First Class Wings! Don't forget to keep all the lights burning in heaven with your glowing, warm heart. You have been an inspiration to your loving family and friends. Even though we have not been in personal contact over the years, we have heard it "through the grapevine" about your success in life's many endeavors. Your dear family has been overly blessed with a gracious, kind, and loving father and husband. Please keep heaven's door open for all of us here on earth. After all, we need your prayers, too!

P.S. Put in a good word for us to Angel Gabriel!
