Mitzi Lyn Brooks, 50, of Fort Smith, passed away Friday. She was born on March 16, 1966 in Fort Smith to Steve and Lynn Mankin. She was a manager for Patrick's Butcher Boy Burgers and a member of Van Buren First Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by a son Michael Martin and a stepsister Amanda Lee Mankin.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Van Buren Assembly of God Church, 1104 Fayetteville Road in Van Buren with burial to follow at New Cemetery in Mulberry, AR. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

She is survived by her husband Gary, one son Nathaniel Dee Brooks of the home, her mother Lynn Mankin of Fort Worth, TX, her father Steve Mankin of Rogers, AR, her stepsisters Sarah Cunningham of Oklahoma City, OK and Maggie Mankin of Bella Vista, AR, her brother Kyle Mankin of Fort Worth, TX and three stepbrothers Jason Mankin of Rogers, AR, Aaron Mankin of Rogers, AR and Jake Mankin of Bella Vista, AR.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Mankin, Aaron Mankin, Collin Mankin, Micah Bubbis, Terry Brooks and Zachary Meadows.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Rebecca D. Schnitzler Special Account at First National Bank, Fort Smith, AR.

I did not get to know Mitzi, but I worked in the classroom with her son Nathaniel for a few months. Mitzi was always full of energy and proud to hear new about her son. I will never forget her face the day we had a picture made of Nathaniel and the Chaffin Cheerleaders. She was so happy. You will be missed.

Words cannot express the pain of knowing Mitzi is not with us anymore. I always enjoyed every encounter with her. She would always pick right up where we left off throughout the yrs.
