Mollie Lillian Grosser Shapiro, 70 year resident of El Paso, Texas passed away quietly early Saturday morning June 28th, 2014. Born December 18, 1918 in Quebec, Canada to parents Joseph and Batsheva (Sadie) Grosser, she moved to the United States at age 4 in 1922 and moved to El Paso in 1944. A tireless advocate against bigotry, injustice, and poverty and fighter for equality for all, she was a voice for the voiceless who never shrank from the defense of her ideals. She was a passionate lover of literature, art and music and a mentor to countless musicians both student and professional in her personal life and in her role as a department manager of The Harmony Shop. Her advocacy for the causes that were dear to her included standing alongside Dr. Laurence Nixon in his fight for racial equality and the right for African-Americans to vote in Texas, campaigning for better working conditions for industrial workers, co-founding the El Paso Chapter of Pioneer Women for Israel, member of The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and The Southern Conference for Human Welfare. Undaunted by criticism and personal attacks, she leaves a legacy that lives on in the people she inspired.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Laurence David Shapiro (Ashley), Jeremiah Moses Shapiro (Terry Daria) and Jonathan Shapiro; grandchildren, Rebecca Shapiro (Kevin Berland), Melinda Shapiro (Daniel Kahn), Laura Beth Nelson (Peter), Bryan Shapiro, Jennifer Piurek (Ryan), Ysa Aviva Savage (Chad), Madeline Ann Sheplor (Charlie); and great grandchildren, Ashleigh Savage, Maxwell Nelson, Alysa Savage, Jacob Nelson, Sierra Savage, Joshua Shapiro, Alexander Piurek, Melloy Nelson, Jane Nelson, Veronica Piurek, and Sienna Savage, along with several loving stepchildren and step-grandchildren.
Her life was especially blessed by the love of her nieces and nephews, Ina Salzman Kurland (Irwin), Janet Grosser, Ann Lehman (Ted), Linda Grosser Hall, Phyllis Klatsky (Paul) and Michael Klein along with their loving, caring children including local grandnieces Beth Kurland and Debra Kurland, grandnephew, Maurice Kurland and great grandniece Shayna Kurland.
She was pre-deceased by her loving brother Irving Grosser (Dorothy), sisters Bobbe Salzman (Larry), Nety Klein (Aaron) and nephew Michael Salzman.

Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at B'nai Zion Cemetery, El Paso, Texas.
