Obituary

Moro Estrada Hidalgo was born on Feb. 28, 1924 to Maria Estrada and Juan Hidalgo in the town of Long Beach, CA. Moro had one older sister Coty. His father died when he was 9 years old and he had to grow up fast in a very tough time. Moro used to tell his children stories of how he would hear cows in the morning before going to school. There was not much money in the early years. Moro joined the army in the 1940's and was there for 2 years. He met and married Mary Ramona Salazar from San Pedro, CA. Together they had 5 children; Raymond, Rachel, Robert, Maria & Rita. In 1952 they bought a small home in Torrance and raised their family...
In 1952 they bought a small home in Torrance and raised their family there until everyone grew up and left home to be on their own. Moro supported his family by working at the cannery on Terminal Island in San Pedro. He went through many positions as a laborer, fork lift driver and retired as an evaporator operator.
During Moro's working years he was a very hard working man and passed that down to all his children and grandchildren.
During the early years while his children were growing up, he loved to BBQ & invite his and Mary's friends over. Some of the friends had guitars and sang. He liked to sing too. Especially, when he had a few drinks.
In the 1980's Moro & Mary took a trip to Las Vegas and he has been going as often as he could. Even until the last months of his life, he still enjoyed the local casinos.
In 1999 it was a hard year for Moro's family. He lost his daughter Maria and son Raymond to cancer and his wife Mary in 2001. He aged a lot during that time and was staring to get sick himself.
His daughter Rita lived with him and helped take care of him until her own death in 2013.
In 2012 his oldest daughter Rachel came to stay with him to help take care of Rita & her dad. Moro had been on 2 years of dialyses by this time because his kidneys were old and failing.
Rachel took care of Moro and in his last 2 weeks of hospice he passed away at home with family. His son Robert who we all knew as P-nut would come from working up north and stay with his Dad on weekends. Moro's grandchildren all had families so they would come and visit as often as they could. During Moro's last year when he was home alone he had Monique and David to stop by and help Rachel with taking or picking him up from dialysis 3 times a week. His last 3 months he had to have 24 hour care while Rachel was at work, David, Monique and Dan and Leticia would take turns watching Moro until Rachel got home from work.
Moro loved to sit outside on his porch and watch the birds and eat snow cones every day. He lived a very peaceful life to 90 years old. He will be missed very much by his family and few friends that are still alive.
