Morris D. "Doug" Hardymon, 86, of Homosassa, passed away on Sun., July 6, 2014 at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, FL. He was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Newhall , W.V., to Roy and Helen (White) Hardymon, one of seven children. He grew up in Kentucky, before moving to Indiana at the age of 16. After serving his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, he began a machinist career that spanned over 45 years with General Motors plants in Muncie and Indianapolis, IN. He retired from Allison Transmission in Indianapolis and moved to Homosassa 21 years ago from there. Doug, as he was known to many, was a member of the GM Club of Citrus County...
Morris D. "Doug" Hardymon, 86, of Homosassa, passed away on Sun., July 6, 2014 at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, FL. He was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Newhall , W.V., to Roy and Helen (White) Hardymon, one of seven children. He grew up in Kentucky, before moving to Indiana at the age of 16. After serving his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, he began a machinist career that spanned over 45 years with General Motors plants in Muncie and Indianapolis, IN. He retired from Allison Transmission in Indianapolis and moved to Homosassa 21 years ago from there. Doug, as he was known to many, was a member of the GM Club of Citrus County and past member of Citrus County Corvette Club and the Touch of Class Corvette Club. Mr. Hardymon loved his dogs, Lucy and Missy, that he called his babies. He loved working in his yard. He was an avid country music and bluegrass fan. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret L. Hardymon, Homosassa; son Rick Hardymon, Indianapolis, IN; daughter Julie Hardymon, Naples, FL; daughter Tina Hardymon, Land O' Lakes, FL; brother Howard (wife Ruby), Sarasota, FL; sister Josephine Warstler, Ft. Wayne, IN; brother Carl (wife Nancy), Portland, IN; sister Rita Mangas (husband Leon), Union City, IN; brother Jack, Homosassa, FL; sister Debbie Williams (husband Lee), Land O' Lakes, FL; grandchildren Jennifer Baker (husband Doug), Indianapolis, IN; Ricky Hardymon (wife Brooke), Charleston, SC; Rob Hardymon, Naples, FL, and great grandchildren Trenton, Clayton and Landon Baker of Indianapolis, IN. Doug was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gene Warstler. Friends will be received on Sat., July 12, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 noon at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa, where a celebration of Doug's life will take place at 12:00 noon with Lee Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Fountains Memorial Park, Homosassa. www.wilderfuneral.com
