Obituary

Morris Edwin Nunley, son of John Melton and Rena Sides Nunley, was born November 5, 1924 in Ira, Texas. He attended public school in Bethel, Runnels County and Ballinger TX. He graduated from Ballinger High School in 1942. He attended Hardin Simmons University, Arkansas A&M, the University of Oklahoma and he graduated from Texas Tech University in 1947 with a BBA degree from the school of Business Administration followed by MBA work at TT. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 during World War II at which time he received four Battle Stars for tour on the USS Abner Read, a destroyer in the South Pacific. He married Patsy...
Morris Edwin Nunley, son of John Melton and Rena Sides Nunley, was born November 5, 1924 in Ira, Texas. He attended public school in Bethel, Runnels County and Ballinger TX. He graduated from Ballinger High School in 1942. He attended Hardin Simmons University, Arkansas A&M, the University of Oklahoma and he graduated from Texas Tech University in 1947 with a BBA degree from the school of Business Administration followed by MBA work at TT. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 during World War II at which time he received four Battle Stars for tour on the USS Abner Read, a destroyer in the South Pacific.
He married Patsy Carol Harston on December 12, 1952 in Lubbock, TX. They moved from Lubbock in 1959, living in Anaheim and Riverside, California; Denver, Colorado and Amarillo, TX returning to Lubbock in 1969. Mr. Nunley was a buyer and manager for Frontier Saving Stamps in Lubbock and California and for Pioneer Saving Stamps in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Nunley was Co-owner of Shetland Stores and The Other Place, retail card, gift and kitchen shops in West Texas and New Mexico for 17 years. He was interim manager for the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra from 1985 to 1987. After retirement he worked as a funeral assistant at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock for 15 years.
Mr. Nunley was an active member of numerous committees of First United Methodist Church in Lubbock, serving as chairman of the Administrative Board in 1983. He was a member of the committee which finalized the Internship Program at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX in 1968.
Mr. Nunley is survived by his wife Pat, one daughter, Rendell Hourigan and husband James T. Hourigan of Vancouver, BC, one son, Col. Kyle C. Nunley of Davis, CA; one granddaughter, Kelsey Hourigan. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, 6 brothers and 5 sisters.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 10:30 AM in the First United Methodist Church, Lubbock with Rev. Keith Wiseman officiating.
