Obituary

Moses Eugene Malone was born on March 23rd, 1955 in Petersburg, Virginia. He was the only child of Mary Hudgins Malone and Moses Eugene Malone. Moses was a quiet child, with a clear focus rarely found in someone so young. His natural ability could be seen from the moment he picked up a basketball, but it was his work ethic and diligence that proved to be his greatest assets. He pushed himself daily, with the ultimate goal of becoming one of the best basketball players in the world. Even during the coldest winters Petersburg had to offer, Moses was found on an outdoor basketball court perfecting his skills, and developing new ways to dominate in the game he loved so much.
Moses married the love of his life, Alfreda Ann Gill, who he described as captivating and beautiful. They had two handsome sons, Moses Eugene, Jr., and Michael Earl. Later in life, he was blessed with his third son, Micah. He is survived by his three sons; his granddaughter Mia; his former wife, Alfreda; his uncles Oscar and Arthur Hudgins; his aunt Clarene Hudgins; his cousin Diane Hudgins, along with her four children; his father-in-law Louis C. Gill; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He joins his mother Mary, father Moses, mother-in-law Minnie Estelle, and aunt Naomi, in eternal life.
The accomplishments Moses achieved throughout his career are countless. The records he held, the honors he has been awarded, and the championship teams he has been apart of exemplify the true meaning of hard work paying off. Few have come from similar circumstances, achieved such great success, and maintained the stature and standing in life that he has, for all the years following his professional career. No one is more suited to hold the name, Chairman of the Boards.
Big Mo, as so many called him, was a giving person. He gave by way of training and teaching athletes who sought to be as great as he was. Without hesitation he took them, one-by-one, under his wing. Educating them in all that he knew, in hopes of watching them achieve the dreams that so closely mirrored his.
Aside of his phenomenal physical talent, and ability to mentally pull the best out of himself, Moses had an infectious sense of humor and exuberant personality that touched anyone he came in contact with. He shared many holidays, family reunions, cookouts, and summer days surrounded by family, relishing in his mother-in-law's Sunday Dinners. Moses Malone is a legend in every sense of the word, and leaves an unmatched footprint in the hearts and minds of those who were blessed to know him.
