Charlotte - Murray Rosen, 90, passed away after a brief illness on June 5, 2014 at Levine-Dickson Hospice House at Southminster. He was born on February 24, 1924 in New York, NY, youngest son of the late Isadore and Ida Rosen. After graduating from Straubenmuller High School in 1942, he enlisted in the Army, but not before meeting the love of his life, Estelle Aroyo, with whom he would correspond throughout World War II, while he was stationed in Karachi, Pakistan (formerly India). They married May 26, 1945, in Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was commissioned to attend Officers Candidate School. He graduated Second Lieutenant, and shortly thereafter enrolled in the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. After a brief stint as a movie theater assistant manager and big band keyboardist in the Catskills, he began in 1949, the textile sales business that would last his lifetime. As his family grew, he moved from Brooklyn to Seaford, Long Island, where his family and friends knew him as a terrific musician and avid boxing fan. Following his sister, Elsie Karro, and her husband Jack, to Charlotte in 1969, he continued to grow his textile sales business, Murray and Company, to include his sons. A dedicated, lifelong provider, Murray worked for 65 years, always saying he enjoyed every day.

He is preceded in death by daughter, Susan Rosen Patterson. He survived by his wife, Estelle; his sons, Roy N. Rosen and Carl D. Rosen, both of Charlotte; his beloved granddaughter, Adriana Rosen, of Asheville, North Carolina; and former and present daughters-in-law, Jan Wilson Rosen of Mint Hill and Freda Zeh Rosen of Charlotte. He is also survived by his doting African Grey Parrot, Lolita.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 pm on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Hebrew Cemetery, with Rabbi Judith Schindler officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; the S.P.C.A.; Temple Beth El of Charlotte, NC; or the charity of one's choice.
