Myrtis Bowler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 3, 2018.

Myrtis Evelyn Bowler died after reaching the age of 95 years old. She was born in Joliet, Illinois. She loved her parents, Florence Charlotte Hodges and Arthur Clifton Hodges and often said what a wonderful upbringing they provided. After attending high school she married a Marine, Major John Anthony Bowler and lived a military life. They lived in many places in the states and also Guam and Saipan. She had three children that survive her, Sharon Lee Parker in Las Vegas, Nevada, Karen Myrtis Gonzalez in Montgomery, Texas and John Anthony Bowler II in Las Vegas, Nevada. She also is survived by her sister, Nancy Lee White in Joliet, Illinois and son-in-law Johnny Gonzalez in Montgomery, Texas. She achieved a lot through the years by continuing her education, reading and collecting books, writing poetry and had a strong interest in the space program and football. She would be delighted at the mention here of her favorite football player, Tom Brady. She had a career as the manager of the Housewares Department at the PX on Camp Pendleton, California.
After retirement, she gave many years of volunteer work to Carlsbad by the Sea Care Center in California. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to be near her daughter and son and enjoyed many years there. Her final years were spent in Texas. Mom's last years were challenged by scoliosis and macular degeneration which was particularly hard for her. However, she still managed to work sudoku puzzles, her very favorite thing to do. Also, she loved and played music she had taped years ago. Up until the end of her 95 years she stayed busy and always wanted to achieve three things every day. Her final project was this Christmas, writing the poem titled, Forgiveness at the Cross, and sending it out to the special people in her life. She is survived by her three children and seven grandchildren, Christopher Kassler, Kurt Kassler, Cathleen Kassler, Michael Parker, Robert Parker, Jessica Sheets Rossman (husband, Lucho) and John Sheets and eight great grandchildren. She will be interred at the Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary in Henderson Nevada at a later date. She believed in God and read the Bible and listened to Bible audio tapes daily. We miss her already.
