Nettie Lee Gunter
LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Nettie Lee Gunter, 94, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel with entombment to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Active Pallbearers will be her grandsons and Honorary Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the funeral home chapel.
Mrs. Gunter was born June 13, 1918 in Lexington County. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Backman and Mariah Miller Backman and step mother, Vera Taylor Backman. She was the loving wife of Cyrus R. Gunter Sr. for 61 years. She was a faithful, longtime, active member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, worked with youth groups, taught Vacation Bible School and organized the Senior Citizens Golden Fellowshipers. She was a caregiver and provided transportation for numerous family, church and community members. Her greatest passion in life besides her family was quilting.
Mrs. Gunter is survived by daughters, Lorene Finney, Faye Miller, daughter by choice, Debbie Hazel of Lexington and son-in-law, Hoyt Dowd of Gaston; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Alvis Dowd, son, C. R. "Blue" Gunter, Jr.; granddaughter, Darlene Dowd Furtick and 3 sisters, Irene Miller, Ruth Gunter and Juanita Marcum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lutheran Hospice, 1505 Blanding Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or to Fellowship Baptist Church, 4238 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073.

DEAR family, I'm so sorry to hear about Ms.Gunter she was a very loving women.My sister Kathy stay's across the road. When I would come up I enjoyed talking to her or seeing her on her porch waveing at me. She is in peace now with GOD resting. My pray's are with you.
