Nadia May Strickland Ardis, 86, was born in Salisbury, MD to Ralph and Virginia Strickland. She peacefully crossed through the veil of life on Friday, June 13, 2014 returning to her Heavenly Father. Nadia married Marion Franklin Ardis in 1943 and was blessed with five children, Trudi Lynn Hedges (Edwin), Christi Dawn Simkins (Rob), Joi Michele Daubach, Grant Thomas Ardis (Thelma), and Thomas James Ardis (Patricia). She was also blessed with 18 grandchildren, Beth Hoppes (Rick), Tammi Calvert (Steve), Kris Derickson, Shauna Burkett (Mark), Amy Fox (Jason), Jason Hedges (Chastity), Anthony Trischler (deceased), William Simkins (Teresa), Kelli Hamill (Fred), Robert A. Simkins (Bobbi), Neil Daubach (Mandy), Leif Daubach (Kelly), Trey Daubach (Sarah), Haleigh Ardis, Buddy Ardis (Katie), Alison Ardis, Ashley Ardis, and Brittany Ardis (deceased). She is also survived by 42 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was very musically talented and loved to sing and played the piano. In her earlier years she sang with the Sweet Adelines and in the church choir for many years. She also performed with the Community Players in Fiddler on the Roof. Throughout her life she wrote poetry which we put together in a book for her 80th birthday. We are still finding poetry that we had not seen before. Like her grandfather before her, she was also blessed with being very artistic. She volunteered at East Salisbury School as the “art lady” teaching the children about the arts. One of her favorite pastimes was doing family genealogy for herself as well as many others. Nadia was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she had many callings throughout the years such as Relief Society President, Primary (youth) President, Ward Missionary, and was a missionary in the Plano, Texas mission when she was 74. She loved the Lord and her Savior, Jesus Christ with all her heart. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Marion F. Ardis; sister, Norma Hess; grandson, Anthony Trischler; granddaughter, Brittany Ardis; and great-grandson, David Calvert. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salisbury where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Bishop Rick Hoppes and Bishop James Whitaker will officiate. Interment will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Ardis to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 106 Greenlawn Lane, Salisbury, MD 21804.
