Nancy Eileen Acup, nee Jenkins, 73, born Jan. 25, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo., died with her family by her side at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Originally from St. Louis, Nancy affectionately recalled to her children that her place of birth was a home apartment "above a donut shop" instead of a hospital. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the U.S. visiting all U.S. National Parks and attractions. However, she was particularly fond of Las Vegas where she enjoyed treating slot machines like ATMs. Her family was always the benefactor of her generous and affectionate nature. A voracious reader of primarily mystery-thriller novels, Nancy was a classic movie buff and preferred vintage puzzle-oriented TV game shows. She cheered loudly for her beloved Cardinals and preferred her margaritas on the rocks with salt. Quick to laugh, Nancy could find humor in nearly all situations.
Charitable in nature, she actively supported the American Lung Association, the Humane Society, and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Marie Christine, nee Gehring, Jenkins; and her sisters, Juanita M. DeNatale, and Jean E. Klingler.
Surviving are her loving husband of 56 years, Ted G. Acup; her children, Terri L. (Douglas) Kussart of Nemo, S.D., Ted G. "Skip" (Kim) Acup Jr. of Belleville, Ill., Lisa M. Acup of San Mateo, Calif., and David S. Acup of Dunn Loring, Va.; her loving grandchildren, Carisa (Nathan) Garrett, Kellyn Kussart, Lizzie Cassen, Tyler S. Acup, Danielle Cassen and Andrew Acup; a great-grandchild, Addelyn Garret; and a brother, Norman "Bud" Jenkins of St. Louis, Mo.
