Byrd (Bell), Nancy
Age 89 formerly of Albion, MI, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 4, 2011. She was born May 12, 1922 in Savannah, Georgia.
She is preceded in death by her husband John H. Byrd, Sr., and daughter Betty L. Byrd (Mandich). Survived by 7 children; James A. Byrd, Jennifer M. Hart, John H. Byrd, Jr., Nancy K. Byrd, Linda Faye Sockalingham, Charles L. Byrd, Alicean F. Caskey; 16 grand children; 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; nieces, and nephews.
During WWII Nancy was a "Rosie Riveter". In the 50's and 60's she was a volunteer for March of Dimes (Mother's March), also active getting people to the polls, a PTA office holder and an entrepreneur. Nancy was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Albion, MI where she once served as an auxiliary for the women's mission. She will be remembered for her love to care for the plight of less fortunate for adopted children. We will miss her discerning reasoning mind and encouraging personality, she positively touched countless lives.
Funeral Service will be Monday, December 12, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bethel Baptist Church, 523 Washington St., Albion, Michigan 49224, with Apostle Tim Kurtz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Nancy will be laid to rest in Albion Memorial Gardens, Albion; MI. Family would like to thank Jackie (PCA), the staff at St. Therese of New Hope and all those who provided comfort and encouragement during our time of bereavement. We are blessed by your kindness.
