Nathan A. Symes, JR., (Lovingly known as Nat) age 77, passed on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Born on November 4, 1940, in Bronx, New York, Nat was the son of the late Nathan and Genevieve Symes. He was proceeded in death by sister-in-law, Rita, sister, Sandra (Leroy), and brother, James. He is survived by his sister, Gwendolyn, brother, Vernon, and sister, Judith (Osman).
While growing up in the Bronx, Nat had a close relationship with his brothers, sisters, cousins, and close friends. It is during that time that he nourished everyone around him with love, faith, laughter, and joy. As a student, Nat attended St. Athanasius Grammar School, Cardinal Hayes, and graduated from Morris High School.
Nat met the love of his life, Myrna, on her birthday, at a wedding on January 25, 1964. They later married on January 23, 1965 in Bronx, New York. They were blessed with two sons, Drew Mitchell and Derek Joshua.
While married, Nat attended C.W Post College full time, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, Nat was recognized for outstanding scholastic achievement and received the highest honor in Business Administration. While attending college, Nat also worked at St. Luke's Hospital on the weekends. In addition to receiving his Bachelors Degree, Nat attended the Academy of Aeronautics and later received his Masters Degree from the State University of New York (S.U.N.Y) in Albany.
Nat and Myrna moved to Schenectady, New York, where he worked for General Electrics for several years. He was employed by Xerox Corporation and was transferred to Connecticut where he and his family lived for many years. While living in Connecticut, Nat was actively involved in the Squires; an active men's social club in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was an entrepreneur and owned several businesses while also being employed by Digital and Compaq.
Nat was an active member of the Junior Achievement Organization and received several awards for his participation. He also taught night classes at Connecticut State College and eventually retired in 2002 from Hewlett Packard. He also went on to own several real estate holdings in Connecticut.
After moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, Nat was an active member of St. James Apostle Catholic Church. He was involved in several ministries and loved the gospel choir. While Myrna became involved in the Las Vegas chapter of Girlfriends, Nat worked closely with her and joined the local chapter of Boyfriends.
Everyone who knew Nat knows that one of his favorite pastimes was watching football and that he was a fervent New England Patriots fan. Nat was also an avid traveler for both business and pleasure. He loved cruises, summers in Cape Cod, and Martha's Vineyard.
Left to honor Nat's memory is his wife, Myrna, his sons, Drew Mitchel (Lizette), and Derek Joshua, grandchildren, Amber Natasha, and Donovan Nathan, sisters, Gwendolyn, and Judith (Osman), and his brother, Vernon. Nat also leaves a host of devoted surrogate children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends to cherish his memory.
Nat was a blessing to everyone he came in contact with and will be remembered forever in our hearts.

Myrna, Nat, Drew and DJ!!! I just found this after so many decades since we were next door neighbors in East Granby. I remember you all so fondly. I was 13 when my family moved away to Wisconsin and you all still cross my mind now and then, and hold a special place in my heart. It's sad to hear of Nat's passing. I'm sure Heaven became a better place the day he arrived. If he's run into my sister Anne, my mom (Irene) or my dad (Bob/Robert) up there, I'd love to be a fly on the wall again hearing their lively conversations! Though I don't remember Nat or any of the Symes ever making a young girl feel like a fly on the wall, but rather included in the warmth, laughter and respect that always filled your household. May you all be well and happy.
