COLUMBIA - Neil J. Mahoney, age 81, passed away peacefully at Agapé Hospice House in Lexington on September 12, 2017.
Born and raised in Arlington, MA, Neil was a graduate of Boston College and served in the US Navy. Neil enjoyed a successful career as an executive in sales and marketing. He authored several books about business practices, as well as a memoir about his fifty year marriage in tribute to his late wife, Ruby P. Mahoney.
Neil was a member of the Knights of Columbus, active in the Golden K Kiwanis Club, and ushered at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and the Boston College Eagles football team.
Neil is survived by his longtime friend, Carole Tinsley, of Greenville, SC, niece Karen Jenks of Marshfield, MA, nephews Joseph Sexton of Chapin, SC, Jackson Sexton of Sierra Vista, AZ, and many friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be donated to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3600 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205.

Neil and I had many fond memories for six years after we both had lost our spouses for 50plus years. We sang songs together..The last one I sang to him a few days before he died was: Someone to Watch Over Me...He loved that one.
