HICKORY - Nelda Jo Whitener Clark, 65, passed away November 15, 2013 surrounded by her loving family at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Nelda was born January 15, 1948 in Haywood Co. to the late Jack Robert and Effie Melton Whitener. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as pianist and organist for 37 years and also had been the church custodian. She had worked at Hardees of West Hickory for 20 years. Surviving are her husband, Darrell "Wayne" Clark of the home; sons, Timothy Dewayne Clark and wife, Christina, of Catawba and David Brian Clark of Boston, Mass.; sister, Wilma Jean Travis and husband, Stewart of Hickory; granddaughter, Lacey Marie Clark of Catawba; grandson, Lane Davis Clark of Catawba; step grandson, Chris Isley of Charlotte and step granddauaghter, Kelsey Keller of Claremont; step daughters, Alisa Keller of Claremont and Lori Passmore of Hickory; aunts, Willa Nell Stiles of Haywood Co and Arbie Armstrong of Haywood Co., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Services will be Sunday, November 17, 2013, at 3:00 P. M. at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Bert Dixon officiating. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Winkler's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Susan G.
