Neva Pearl Sipe Deal, age 93, of Hickory, NC, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016, at Catawba Regional Hospice in Sherrills Ford, NC. Born February 25, 1923, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Fred Eugene Sipe and Hattie Alice Matthews Sipe.
Neva was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Conover, NC, where she was a former Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, and member of the women's circle and quilting group. She loved reading her bible and her family said she had read her bible cover to cover several times. Neva enjoyed gardening and canning and loved cooking and was known for her "Old Timie Pot Pie". She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Neva was preceded in death by her husband, Paul James Deal; a son, Donnie Paul Deal; brothers, Hugh Sipe, Emory Sipe and Berman Sipe; sisters, Evelyn Rusch, Anna Barger, Stella Little and Eula Mae Sipe.
Survivors include her daughters, Faye Rudisill and husband, Gene, of Hickory, Cathy Hallman of Hickory, and Vicki Zachary and husband, David, of Hickory; son, Dennis J. Deal and wife, Ann, of Conover; sister, Margie S. Lail of Conover; brother, Jack Sipe of Hickory; grandchildren, Lajeana Lovelace, Ricky Rudisill, Jonathan Deal, Robert Downs, Andrew Deal, Alexis Deal, and Corey Gilchrist; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Lovelace, Gracie Rudisill, Jonathan Deal, Jr., Maddilyn Deal, Mason Deal, and Maxton Deal.
A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Scott Bollinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 2:00 – 2:45 PM on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be: Dennis Deal, Gene Rudisill, Corey Gilchrist, Andrew Deal, Ricky Rudisill, and Terry McDaniel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Music Fund, 4420 County Home Road, Conover, NC, 28613.
