Nick de la Torre, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at the age of 67. He was born in El Paso, Texas to the late Daniel and Guadalupe de la Torre, Mr. de la Torre graduated from Cathedral High School, earned a bachelor's degree from St. Michael's College in Santa Fe, N.M. and a masters degree in education from the University of Texas-El Paso. He also did post graduate work at New York University in New York City. Mr. de la Torre spent his career working for El Paso County in various aspects of juvenile justice. He was a world traveler who enjoyed visiting national parks and art museums, as well as relatives and friends. He also enjoyed movies and line dancing. Surviving are his sons Andre Nicolas of Houston and Ian Yves of Arizona; daughter-in-law Maggie Galehouse of Houston; grandson Carlos de la Torre of Houston; three sisters Dolores Bartning, Irene de la Torre, and Sylvia Spencer of Maryland; brother Daniel de la Torre of Massachusetts; lifelong family friend Natalia Vasquez, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Rosary will be on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 7 p.m. at Harding Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick Cathedral. Ian was a dear friend and I would love to chat with Mr De La Torre whenever I would visit and call. I pray the wonderful memories ease the pain as you celebrate his life. Sending Love, Light and Prayers.
