Nita Leggett, 79, went to Heaven on Friday, October 17, 2014. A celebration of her life will be held at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street, Chapel of Memories, in Abilene, TX on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM.
Nita was preceded in death by her son, Brent Leggett. She is survived by her daughter, Lesha Leggett, and son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Shanice Leggett. She was anxiously anticipating the birth of her first grandchild, Carter Blake Leggett.
Nita touched many lives, due to her love of people and great generosity. She was an example of acceptance for all, no matter how different or diverse. She had an uncanny ability to make people feel good about themselves, through her never-ending optimism. Upon arriving at Nita's, you'd likely find her in the yard, watering plants or picking weeds. She'd then engage you in lengthy conversation about the lives of her loved ones and offer you something tasty, such as red beans and cornbread or "goulash".
Surviving siblings include her favorite sister and friend, Loretta Hatfield, sister Ginny Trussell and brothers, Bud Turnbow and Gary Turnbow. Siblings Gerraldine Furrh (Aunt Sis) and Florence Larned (Aunt Sanner) preceded Nita in death.
To honor Nita and her legacy, let us love a little harder and laugh a litter louder. In lieu of flowers, Nita's favorite charity was Saint Jude's Children Hospital.

Lesha and Shawn,
I am so sorry to hear about your mother's death. I have lots of fond childhood memories of your mother.
Also I so appreciated the way she looked after my mother the last few years. It gave my family great comfort to know that your mother was watching out for her.
My prayers are with you all.
