Norma L. Barnes, 83, Roeland Park, Kan., went to join her beloved husband in Heaven on Thursday, December 31, 2009.
Mom was primarily a homemaker; she did work part-time at Roe Bowl with Dad in the 60s and 70s.
Her interests were watching the Kansas City Royals, old movies, listening to music and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Her favorite pastime was playing ball with her "baby" Midget.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the outstanding care Mom received from Diana, Clarence, Mikhaelle, Pat and Darcy with Olathe Hospice and from Amy, Carol and Joy with Shawnee Mission Home Health Care. A very special thanks to Mom and Dad's Fontana neighbors for all they did to help them.
Mom was preceded in death by Dad (Herman) on February 24, 2009; they were married 62 years; she missed him dearly, was lost without him and is now at peace since they have reunited. Also preceding her were her parents, a sister, and three brothers.
Left to cherish her memory is her son Kevin D. Barnes, Lee's Summit; her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberley D. Barnes and Elmer R. Grigsby Jr., Olathe; her granddaughter Kristin D. Barnes, Roeland Park; her grandson Kaulin D. Barnes, Roeland Park; her sisters Barbara and Sandra Byrd, Kansas City, Mo.; her "baby" dog, Midget, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was in the hospital when Dad passed away. She came to live with Elmer and I upon her release and remained with us until Thursday morning when her heart gave out. She had a history of heart problems, dementia and was a breast cancer survivor. Mom and Dad, we are lost and empty without you, but it warms our hearts knowing that you are back together again. We love you, miss you, and you will be remembered in our hearts forever.
Visitation will be from 5:30-7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula, Olathe, Kan. Services will follow at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Animal Haven in Merriam, Kan., or the charity of your choice.
