Graveside services will be 10:30a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 in Hamby Cemetery with her son-in-law, Mike Patrick presiding. Norma was born on April 20, 1928, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Carl and Addie Carr. She lived her youth in Hope, Arkansas, where she met and married her lifetime sweetheart, Henry Smith in 1947. They moved their family to Texas in 1955, living briefly in San Angelo and Sweetwater, before moving to Abilene in 1956, where she and Henry lived the rest of their lives. They celebrated 65 years of marriage shortly before Henry's death.

Norma was a homemaker her entire life. She loved to cook for her family, always getting up before everyone else and having a full breakfast prepared before waking the kids. She also cooked lunch and supper each day. She was a talented seamstress, making all her daughters' clothes during their school years. In addition, she kept the books for Henry's lawn sprinkler company.

Norma was a member of North Park Baptist Church and attended regularly until her health declined. She loved her ladies' Sunday school class.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her parents; and two sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy and husband, Mike Patrick; Peggy and husband, Jerry Bramblett; Stanley Burkman; three grandsons, Keith Burkman, Kevin Burkman, and Jason Patrick; four great-grandchildren as well as two sisters, Carleene Yokem of Shreveport, LA, and Faye Reyenga of Hope, AR; and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Barry Moak and his staff as well as the staff of Wisteria Place Nursing Center for their care and concern over the past 4 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 903, Abilene, TX 79604.
