Norman Maynard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 15, 2017.

MAYNARD, Norman Eugene – age 86 of Burton, MI passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. Norman, also known as "Stormin' Norman", was born on December 9, 1930 in Flint, MI to the late George Albert and Helen (Sauders) Maynard. He married Pearl Patrick on June 18, 1949. Aside from farming, Norman also worked at Buick as an inspector. He could never be called lazy, as he was always active, tinkering around in the garage, walking 5 miles a day regardless of the weather, or lending a helping hand to others. He had even dug his own basement. Besides being the Reverend at Flint Spiritual Church for many years, he also was their maintenance man/janitor, fixing things, shoveling and plowing, lawn care etc. He had volunteered in several care facilities visiting the sick and elderly, took care of his neighbor's yards, and did charity work and volunteered for multiple organizations such as Crossroads Village, Old News Boys, Toys for Tots and many more. Norman was a regular blood donor to the American Red Cross for the greater part of his life. He was involved in politics and was a member of his local Union. Most recently he was a member of NTC Church in Burton. Norman was well known in his neighborhood and was often seen riding his bike with all of the neighborhood kids calling out "Hi Grandpa" to him. He loved his family and was a faithful and dedicated husband and father. He enjoyed travelling to PA with his family. In his spare time he also liked to go fishing and listen to Polka music. Norman could fix anything, yet when someone would ask him what they owed him he would only ask for a smile or a hug and would refuse any other form of payment. Trying to leave his house from visiting and forgetting to hug him would land you in trouble and you'd best go back and make it right. He had a great sense of humor, truly loved life, and enjoyed serving and helping those in need. Surviving are his wife, Pearl; son, David; daughter, Robin; grandchildren, Bobby II (Linda), Jody (Charlene), Travis (Jessica), and Samantha (Corey), Judy (Tyler), Jennifer, and Jamie (Amanda), Kevin and Steven, Shawn, Chantel, Corodon, and Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Brandy, Charles, Jessica, Trevor, Justyn, Cameron, Jasmine, Dakotah, Ethan, Madison, Corey Jr., Delbert, Amia, Joseph II, Alexis, Zander, Hunter, Dane, Colt, Brandon, Riley, Casey, Jailyn, and Sonny; a great-great-grandchild, Xander; brothers, Lloyd, Jurry (Pat), Berville, and George Jr. (Mary Lou); sister-in-law, Frances; and daughter-in-law, Sue. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Freda; son, James; brother, Leon; and son-in-law Ed. The family would like to give a special thank you to Norman's best friend, Larry Wright and to their wonderful neighbors, Barbara and John Hart and also Pat and Lynne for all of their support. Those desiring may make contributions in Norman's memory to the American Red Cross.
