Norman Richard "Dick" Boerger, 86, of Fort Wayne passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014 in Fort Wayne. He was born on July 10, 1928 in Fort Wayne to the late Norman A. and Sara Pauline Boerger. He owned his own insurance companies, Norman A. Boerger Insurance, Inc. in Fort Wayne, and Pickwick Insurance Agency, Inc. in Syracuse, IN. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Dick was involved in many organizations including Fort Wayne Jaycees, Exhausted Roosters, Sertoma, Fort Wayne Charity Horse Show board, Aboite Township Community Association, Wawasee Property Owners Association, and Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation. ...
Norman Richard "Dick" Boerger, 86, of Fort Wayne passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014 in Fort Wayne. He was born on July 10, 1928 in Fort Wayne to the late Norman A. and Sara Pauline Boerger. He owned his own insurance companies, Norman A. Boerger Insurance, Inc. in Fort Wayne, and Pickwick Insurance Agency, Inc. in Syracuse, IN. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Dick was involved in many organizations including Fort Wayne Jaycees, Exhausted Roosters, Sertoma, Fort Wayne Charity Horse Show board, Aboite Township Community Association, Wawasee Property Owners Association, and Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation. He was a member at Trinity English Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Syracuse, IN, and Redeemer Lutheran Church in DeTour Village, MI. He loved the lighthouses of the Great Lakes and supported several restoration projects. He was a life long sailor, joining the Wawasee Yacht Club at the age of 14 after a special junior membership was created for him. For many years he raced his Lightning class sailboat with his wife and children. He also participated in several races from Chicago to Mackinac, and many trips sailing with friends around the Great Lakes and the Caribbean islands. He also loved model railroading and created several amazing train boards. Surviving family include his wife of 56 years, Barbara Boerger; children, Tamzon (Kevin) O'Malley of Auburn, IN, Mark Boerger of Cromwell, IN; grandchildren, Patrick O'Malley, Catherine O'Malley, and Katilyn Boerger. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Trinity English Lutheran Church, Krauss Chapel, 405 W. Wayne St., Fort Wayne with a gathering of friends and family one hour prior. Memorials may be made to Trinity English Lutheran Church or Visiting Nurse. Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services are handling arrangements.
