Norman D. Rollins, 88, left this world for a better place on Monday, November 21st, 2016 at his home.
Norman was born July 19, 1928 in Connersville to John D. and Margaret Peters Rollins. He lived in Fayette County all of his life. He attended local grade schools through the eighth grade. He quit school at the age of fifteen to work on a farm near Nulltown. Norman then worked at Daum's Dairy Mart in Connersville until he was eighteen. At that time, he went to work at American Kitchens until being drafted into the United States Army on December 7, 1950. Norman served in the Korean War in an artillery unit until his discharge in 1952. While in Korea, he attained the rank of Corporal as gunner on a 155 mm Howitzer. After his discharge, he returned to work at American Kitchens until July of 1953. Norman then went to work for General Telephone Company where he worked until his retirement in 1990. Norman was always a hard worker. He was never without a full time job since the age of sixteen. Norman was a born again Christian and his life was lived as an example of what a Christian is. He was always kind and cared about others more than himself. Norman always wanted to help everyone. He loved music and playing his guitar.
Norman is survived by his sister: Marjorie Corbin; his brother: John Rollins and his wife, Janice, all of Connersville; six nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Donald Rollins and two nieces.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Inurnment will follow in Everton Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 until the time of service Saturday where memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
