Oleg Oppengeim has unexpectedly passed away on July 8, 2013 at the age of 65. Oleg was the beloved husband of Galina Oppengeim for 42 years, and devoted father of Michael Oppengeim and Ada Oppengeim. He was born in Tallinn, Estonia and in 1995 had moved to the United States with his whole family.
Oleg was a talented writer and a journalist, who spent many morning hours hosting a news program on Radio 4 (Raadio Neli) in Estonia. His short stories were published in numerous Estonian periodicals, including Raduga, Estonia's literature digest. He had also published a novel, "Dvoe" (1983), and a collection of short stories "Vremena drugie" (1993). Oleg took part in Writer Union events where he was known for his humorous shorts. Unbeknownst to many, Oleg had a beautiful singing voice, was a skillful guitar player and a keen photographer. His kind heart, unassuming nature, and warm smile will be missed by many. He will remain forever in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 2:00 PM, followed by burial at The Gardens at Gethsemane at 3:00 PM. Friends are encouraged to join the family after the services at the Family Room at the Gardens.
Oleg was an avid reader and had donated numerous books to libraries. Charitable contributions in his memory may be made to the Newton Free Library http://newtonfreelibrary.net/?sec=about&doc=contributing
