Obituary

Olene Shepherd was born October 13, 1921 to I.D. Shepherd and Eola Glyn (Ratliff) Shepherd on their farm located 5 miles from Florence, Texas. She spent her entire childhood in this location, attending Florence schools. She died June 13, 2017 at the age of 95 years and 8 months. The long porches and huge oak trees along the N. Salado Creek afforded Olene with wide, open spaces to run, play, swim and dream with her sisters and brother after chores were done.

No tellin' how many times each child was baptized by their siblings in the creek next to their farmhouse.

Olene accepted Christ at an early age and attended the Primitive Baptist Church. As an adult, she was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Florence, Texas.

Olene married Melvin Stewart on June 29, 1941. To this union were born four sons, Lyndell, Donnie, Randy and Hershel. Olene and Melvin raised their boys with good ol' fashioned values, teaching them to honor their word and respect others.

God blessed Olene with the talent to see and paint the beauty around her to share with others. Images of the Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountains, and her beloved Texas Hill Country with its Bluebonnets, Indian Paint Brushes and Wine Cups adorned hundereds, if not thousands, of canvases that were complimented by Melvin's vintage barn wood frames. She was "An Artista Extraordinaire" teaching art classes and selling her art at shows and from her studio in Florence.

Olene was preceded in death by her parents Zeke and Eola, her husband of 70 years Melvin, one son Donnie O'Neal, her grandson Jason, four sisters, Janie Caskey, Lois Baker, Zekle Faith and Imogene Baker, one brother Ira Shepherd, and Ottie an infant sibling.

Surviving Olene are three sons Lyndell (Nancy), Randy (Sharon), Hershel (Pat), and Donnie's wife Ginny. Her last living sibling, Carl Shepherd, also survives her.

Cherishing her memory are 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and precious nieces and beloved nephews too numerous to mention by name.

The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 23, 2017 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Lawler Cemetery in Florence, Texas.

Arrangements by Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628 (512)863-2564.
