Orlando Gabriel Taylan, 71, of Oxnard passed away on Friday May 3, 2013. He was born in Isabela , Philippines and was raised in Laoag City, Illocos Norte. He attended elementary and high school in Laoag. Although he aspired to become a Nautical Engineer, he was persuaded by his aunt to join the United States Navy at the age of 18 and made it as a career retiring at the age of 38. After retirement, he continued working for the Hueneme school District and Bard Elementary School as part of the school maintenance staff and again retired in 2005. Orlando Gabriel Taylan, 71, of Oxnard passed away on Friday May 3, 2013.

He was born in Isabela , Philippines and was raised in Laoag City, Illocos Norte. He attended elementary and high school in Laoag. Although he aspired to become a Nautical Engineer, he was persuaded by his aunt to join the United States Navy at the age of 18 and made it as a career retiring at the age of 38. After retirement, he continued working for the Hueneme school District and Bard Elementary School as part of the school maintenance staff and again retired in 2005. He was married to Ramona Manzano Labayog on June 19, 1982. He was born to the late Gregorio and Julia Taylan, March 22, 1942, in Isabela. Orlando loved to cook, especially for big occasions like parties and family gatherings. He also enjoyed cultivating vegetables in his backyard garden, and had a craft for repairing things around the house.

He was silent, patient, and very passionate in living and practicing his Catholic Faith. He was preceded by the death of his daughter SR-Jaimie Marie on November 8, 2003.

Orlando is survived by three children; Michael from Chicago, Arthur and Alyssa from Oxnard, his sister Martina, Marigmen and nephew, Paul Maigmen. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Kierney, Mikeely and Michael Jr.

There will be a viewing held on Thursday May 16 at Del Angel Mortuary (Conrad and Carroll in Oxnard) 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday May 17 at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 3 -9 p.m. The Rosary and vigil shall begin at 6 p.m.

The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday May 18, 2013, 11 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Parish. The burial will take place at Santa Clara Cemetery after the Funeral Mass.
