Osias (Ozzie) Uribe
Osias (Ozzie) Uribe, 71 of El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully late evening on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Providence Memorial Hospital. He was born in Mexico City, Mexico, to Rafael and Ofelia Uribe, where he was raised in Anthony, New Mexico, but lived most of his adult life in El Paso, Texas. A graduate of Gadsden High School in 1962, he soon joined the United States Navy, serving from 1962-1968. He received the National Defense Service Medal where he was assigned to Attack Squadron 125 in LeMoore, California.
Ozzie was a man of many accomplishments which included his education from Technical Vocational Institute with a diploma in Drafting Technology, received an associates degree in Construction Management from El Paso Community College, achieved a BA in Business Management from Prescott College, Arizona, and finished his schooling with an MA in Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso. He was a member of The American Legion & the Country Gents Car Club in his teen years & was also a member of the Vista Del Sol Optimist Club where he served as president, as well as in other major positions, for over 10 years. He also held many high prestigious job positions including engineering, senior compliance specialist, draftsman, & architect.
Ozzie devoted his time working at the El Paso Natural Gas Company as an environmental scientist until he retired after 31 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed watching boxing, football, and keeping active. He was an avid supporter of his grandchildren's multiple sporting events which included football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, and enjoyed sharing in their victories. Many of his strong qualities included being a loving, selfless, and compassionate man, helping friends and family with household projects, coaching, volunteering, or in whatever else was asked of him. Being a devout Catholic, he always remained strong in his faith.
Ozzie was extremely loving and proud of his wife and best friend, Aurelia (Lela), who just celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary of 50 years on June 14, 2014. He was a loving & devoted father leaving behind 2 children, Dina Lubbers (Rogelio Acosta) and Ozzie Jr. Uribe (Melissa). He is also survived by 3 sisters: Rachel Uribe, Betty Gonzales-Sosa, and Isela Covarrubia followed by 3 brothers: Raul, Raphael Jr., and Hector; as well as his many loving grandchildren which included: Danica, Alexis, Jessica, Jaycie Lubbers and Elijah, Esaui, Ezra Uribe, followed by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Ozzie was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and a friend to all.
Gone is a father loved by all; his soul is now at rest. He'll sleep in peace- his work is done. A fathers work- the best. He'll know the joy of perfect rest in heaven up above, where he may dwell contentedly protected by God's love. Our hearts may grieve that he must lie beneath the sacred sod. And yet we know he lives in peace within the house of God. We love you Dad & you will be with us in our hearts & spirit forever!

God bless you Ozzie. So sorry to hear of your passing. I will always remember you from the YMCA aerobic classes. You came in, worked hard, and were a great person to talk with. Your love of family was so obvious and your face would beam when you talked about them. Even though I only knew you for one small part of your life, you touched my life just like you did with everyone you met. Rest in peace. Love and peace to your family.

My most deepest sympathies to all the family -- such a good man, such a dear person and so in love with his granddaughters and their sports and that love spilled over to my daughter who had a wonderful opportunity to play basketball with his granddaughter Danica at St. Raphael and then a bit at Eastwood. Love to all the family members -- most especially his wonderful wife and daughter both equally as kind. God be with you all.
