We knew Otis from the Tuscaloosa Sailing Club. He was always busy with a repair project or out sailing. He and Flora would come to the socials and made for great conversation. I was impressed that Flora knew of and had read the Sweet Potato Queen books and we all had a lively discussion about those stories. Otis was quite a storyteller himself. He was in the Children's Book Writers Guild that I attended. He loved being in there with all the ladies. A neighbor of mine mentioned that her exercise group had a new member that I would know. Otis had joined the ladies to sweat it off. He was a charmer and found beauty in art, rocks, stories, nature, and having fun in living. We're glad that we knew Otis and Flora. Our condolences to the family.
