HARVEY, Pierce Jones, Jr. (P.J.) went to be with his Lord and family and friends who predeceased him Wednesday, August 6. Besides his parents, Pierce and Lucile Plowden Harvey, he was predeceased by a son, Pierce Jones Harvey, III; two brothers, Charles Harvey and John Harvey and a sister-in law, Betsy Harvey. P.J. is survived by his devoted wife of 51+ years, Mary Elizabeth (Betty); daughters, Joy Zalkin and husband Max and Laura Ramsey and husband Merle; sons, Keith Harvey and wife Rosa, Bryan Harvey and wife Deborah, Jon Bullard and wife Carolyn and Tim Bullard and his special friend Sharon Rabb; seven grandsons, Jamey Hale (Melissa), Jon Hale, Darin Bullard (Robin), David Bullard, Donald Bullard (Krista), Timothy Harvey and Alex Harvey; three granddaughters, Anna Guzman (Frank), Victoria Rivera (Angel) and Stephanie Metzger; fourteen great grandchildren, Hannah, Matthew and Michael Hale, Dylan and Raelyn Bullard, Logan and Kennedy Bullard, Sabrina Harvey, Celeste, Emilio and Gabriela Guzman, Carmen and Roman Rivera and Brittany Hale Baldyga; sisters-in-law, Roberta Harvey and Sandra Milam and her husband Phil; nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

P.J. was born September 9, 1922 in Hyde Park moving to the Seminole Heights area at age two. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1941 and started his college career at University of Tampa. After joining the Navy in 1941, he was assigned to the University of Miami in the officers training program. Upon completion of that program, he attended the U.S. Naval Supply and Disbursing School at Harvard Graduate School of Business. He was then sent to the 137th Navy Seabees where he served four years as Supply Officer of the Battalion during World War II including duty in Okinawa. After the war, he completed his college work at University of Miami graduating in 1946 and started working in the Wilkins-Harvey CPA firm. He received his CPA certificate in 1952 and was made a partner with his father in the Harvey and Harvey CPA firm. He remained active in the Naval Reserve and was called back to duty during the Korean War serving two years as officer in charge of the Naval Coast Inspection Unit at Newport News Ship Building Company, Virginia. Altogether P.J. had over twenty-three years with the Navy and retired as Lt. Commander in 1965. P.J. was joined in the Harvey and Harvey CPA firm by his wife Betty in 1968. P.J. and Betty continued working together after the firm was merged with Wheeler, Herman in 1987 and became Wheeler, Herman, Harvey and Lagor. P.J. and Betty retired in 1997 but continued preparing tax returns at home for special friends and family until 2010. P.J. was a member of the AICPA, FICPA, Egypt Temple AAONMS, Scottish Rite and Temple Terrace Masonic Lodge #330. He was an active member of Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as Chairman of the Stewardship Committee and as Co-Treasurer.

P.J.'s "going home service" will be at Hope Presbyterian Church, 826 S. Miller Rd., Valrico at 11 AM Saturday, August 9 with Rev. Eddie Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hope Presbyterian Church and a reception will follow after the service. Interment will be at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hope Presbyterian Church. James and Jon Hale, Darin, David and Donald Bullard, Andy Johnson, Frank Lagor and Earl Starry will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Kendall Baker, Frank Guzman, Timothy and Alex Harvey, Chuck Kashavsky, Phil Milam, Angel Rivera and Max Zalkin. P.J. was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be truly missed by all.
