Patrick Thomas "Pat" Martin, 92, of Jensen Beach, FL, died Monday, July 1, 2014. Pat Martin, son of the late Frank and Ernestine Martin, was born May 24, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA. He died of pneumonia at Hospice Center in Port St. Lucie. Resting comfortably, he passed in his sleep with his son close. Pat had been recovering from hip replacement surgery, suffered in February. Then he developed pneumonia and had be hospitalized June 24. The pneumonia became too severe the following days and he fought to breathe. He was taken to Hospice June 30, where they were able to help him breath and relieve the pain. Pat drifted off to sleep...
Patrick Thomas "Pat" Martin, 92, of Jensen Beach, FL, died Monday, July 1, 2014. Pat Martin, son of the late Frank and Ernestine Martin, was born May 24, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA. He died of pneumonia at Hospice Center in Port St. Lucie. Resting comfortably, he passed in his sleep with his son close.

Pat had been recovering from hip replacement surgery, suffered in February. Then he developed pneumonia and had be hospitalized June 24. The pneumonia became too severe the following days and he fought to breathe. He was taken to Hospice June 30, where they were able to help him breath and relieve the pain. Pat drifted off to sleep for the final time to rest in peace.

Mercifully he left this world a few hours after Midnight, July 1, 2014, and arrived in Heaven where he reunited with his beloved wife Rose (Caputo) Martin, who died in 2003. Pat was preceded in death by youngest son, Drew; daughter, Patty Darks; brother Vinnie Martin; sister-in-law Nancy (Ryan) Martin and nephew 'Little Vin'; brother-in-law Leeland Meyers and nephew 'Little Lee'; Brother-in-law, Fran Wenstel; Brother-in-law Frank Svaranowic.

Pat was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Langley High in Pittsburgh, where he was captain and QB of the football team. He enlisted in the service and fought in WWII. He returned to Pittsburgh, after the war, where he was a "single parent" of first born daughter Patty. In 1951 he married Rose Caputo, they started their family, had 2 sons Frank and Drew. In 1963, Pat and his little family moved out West, to Colorado to start a new life.

He bought a mobile home park and started a mobile home dealership. He worked hard and became a successful businessman in Greeley, Colorado. The business thrived, and he invested wisely and opened a second mobile home dealership, in Ft. Collins. In 1970, Pat and partner, Bruce Ruth, built a restaurant/bar in Greeley, "The Red Garter Lounge" and was granted the first liquor license in City of Greeley. Greeley had been "dry" till then.

He also pursued his interest in Thoroughbred Horse Racing. He and partner Bruce, bought three race horses. The horses won several races. Pat and Bruce did well. Eventually Pat and Rose retired and moved to Florida for retirement. They built a house in Port St. Lucie, in 1988. After Rose died in 2003, and son Drew died in 2006, Pat and son Frank bought a condo in Jensen Beach, where they lived till his death.

Pat is survived by son, Frank, Jensen Beach; big sister Helen Harbor of San Antonio, TX; baby sister, Mary Lou, Meyers of Pittsburgh; sister-in-law, Nina Svaranowic, Pittsburgh; granddaughter 'Little Patty', Pittsburgh; granddaughter Jennifer, Grand Junction, CO; 5 nephews, and 7 nieces Paul, Frank, Eileen; Danny, Donna, Little Mary; Ernie, Cindy, Mary Kay; Pete, Cathy, Terry, and Joey.

Pat was a member of Moose Lodge, AM Vets, VFW, American Legion.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 5, 2014, 9:30 AM at Aycock Funeral Home in Jensen Beach.
