Palmer Harold Sheppard, age 85, of Bloomington, died Monday morning at his residence. Born September 20, 1931 in Beebe, Arkansas, he was the son of George Thomas and Claudie B. (Carmichael) Sheppard. He retired as a meat cutter for Indiana University after 34 years of service and then worked for Sears in the College Mall. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War where he had attained the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church in the Dolan community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leona M. (Young) Sheppard, of Bloomington; two sons, Steven G. Sheppard of Bloomington and Thomas C. Sheppard of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one daughter, Nancy E. Reynolds, of Bloomington, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Palmer was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Howard Sheppard and two sisters, Helen Justice and Joyce Watson.
The funeral service will be held on Friday (12/2) at 10:00 a.m. at the Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; Greene and Harrell Chapel; 700 W. Gourley Pike with Rev. Kory Ferree officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens where the Monroe Veterans Honor Guard will perform military graveside rites. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Thursday (12/1) from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
