Pete was a devoted member of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, who loved his family with all his heart. He spent 4 years of service to our country in the Army and 39 years of service as a civil engineer in the Air Force. He treated everyone who crossed his path as a friend, always willing to lend a hand no matter the need. Pete often spent time reading the Bible, gardening, cooking, dancing, practicing the seven languages he knew, playing with his children/grandchildren or maintaining his "classic" cars. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Olympia, nee Kyriazes, Charizopoulos; his sponsors, Thomas and Thanasis Vlahavas; a sister, Kalanth Garasopous; and a beloved nephew, John Dalamisios.

Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Norma, nee Schwanke, Vlahavas, of Belleville, Illinois; his four children, Christina (Bob) Farmer, of Shiloh, Illinois, Sophia (Bob) Powers, of Fairview Heights, Illinois, Joanna (Brett) Dardeen, of Belleville, Illinois, and John (Jennifer) Vlahavas, of Chicago, Illinois; his grandchildren, Austin, Alexis, Ashleigh, Danielle, Dalton, Dillon, Athena, Evangeline, Alexandra, and John; two sisters, Athena Charizopoulos, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and Youla (Andreas) Kotsilianou, of Athens, Greece; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Swansea, Illinois, or the donor's choice. Condolences may also be expressed online at www.lakeviewfuneralhm.com.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2013, at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 N. Illinois, Fairview Heights, Illinois. A Trisagion service will be held at 6 p.m., Friday evening.

Funeral: Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 405 Huntwood Rd., Swansea, Illinois, with Father Achilles Karathanos officiating. Interment will follow.
