Parks Snead Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 3, 2017.

Parks Holman Snead, Jr. of Amherst died Friday, December 1, 2017. Born in Forest, Virginia on November 10, 1931, he was the son of the late Parks Holman Snead, Sr. and Nellie Elliott Snead.

He was predeceased by his brother, Zane Graham Snead.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bessie Bryant Snead; by his son and daughter-in-law Parks Snead, III and Georgeann Vagt Snead; by his grandchildren Hannah Snead and Parks Snead, IV; by his sister Nell Snead McIver; by ten nieces and nephews and by many great nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons and in various other roles. He also served on the Board of Advisors for Lynchburg's Old City Cemetery.

Mr. Snead was a lifelong resident of central Virginia, and an avid student of its history and people. He spent a majority of his professional career as an architect and builder; his skill and artistry live on within numerous churches, homes and businesses. He maintained a love of nature, flying and history throughout his life. He was a skilled craftsman and mentor who would drop whatever he was doing to create wonderful models, toys and adventures for the amusement (and education) of family children. He was a coworker who could be relied upon to complete the most complex projects. He was a friend and neighbor who always made time to visit and share stories.

His family gratefully acknowledges those who assisted in his terminal care: the staff at Heartland Health Care, the staff at Lynchburg General Hospital, and the staff at Monelison Family Medical Services.

A celebration-of-life service will be held at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Derik W. Hamby officiating. There will be a reception following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.

A private committal service will be held at the Old City Cemetery Columbarium.

My deepest sympathies go out to the family! Parks was a wonderful man and I enjoyed working with him at H&P. He was always telling wonderful stories and I learned a lot from him. Even got the opportunity to work with him some after he retired. I am grateful for having the opportunity to have met and worked with him. He will be missed!
