Patricia Ann McTarsney, a longtime bird watcher and Tallahassee real estate professional, passed away on February 9, 2014.Pat was born April 16, 1932 in Johnson County, Indiana. She graduated from Center Grove High School in 1950 and received her Bachelor's Degree from Butler University, Indiana. She earned a Master's Degree in Health and Physical Education from The University of Iowa and a Ph.D.from the University of Oregon in 1979 in the field of Motor Learning. She taught Health and Physical Education in public schools in Indiana, California, and Iowa, the State University of New York College at Cortland, and The Pennsylvania...
Patricia Ann McTarsney, a longtime bird watcher and Tallahassee real estate professional, passed away on February 9, 2014.Pat was born April 16, 1932 in Johnson County, Indiana. She graduated from Center Grove High School in 1950 and received her Bachelor's Degree from Butler University, Indiana. She earned a Master's Degree in Health and Physical Education from The University of Iowa and a Ph.D.from the University of Oregon in 1979 in the field of Motor Learning. She taught Health and Physical Education in public schools in Indiana, California, and Iowa, the State University of New York College at Cortland, and The Pennsylvania State University.

Pat was a pioneer in women's athletics when she became the first head softball coach at Penn State in 1965.She taught and coached there until 1980. Because of her significant contributions to the development of the Women's Athletic programs at Penn State, Pat was honored by the institution with an invitation to deliver the opening speech for the "Women's History Month Series" for the Penn State All-Sports Museum in 2011. After Pat retired from Penn State and moved to Tallahassee, she started her Real Estate career. She was a valued and tireless professional in the real estate business for 20 years.
She served on the Tallahassee Board of Realtors and was a Multi-Million Dollar Producer for many years. She retired from that profession in 2001.

Pat loved the out-of-doors and was an accomplished bird watcher. She touched many lives by sharing her knowledge of and passion for birds. Because of her, there are innumerable people, friends and strangers alike, who have learned to enjoy the wonders of the winged world.Pat took an Audubon Society trip down the Amazon.She and her friends took many birding trips throughout the United States and many countries, including Scotland, Venezuela, Guatemala, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica, Belize, Mexico and Trinidad/Tobago. Friendships were etched in the hearts of people who traveled with her during these fabulous adventures, and Pat, as their mentor and leader, was dear to all of them.

Pat is survived by her sister, Shirley (DeWane) Calvert; nephews Tony (Angie) and Mark (Debby) Calvert; and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ellen Parker, and nephew Scott Parker.

A Memorial Service will be held for Pat on February 22, 2014, at 4 p.m. at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Pat's memory to St. Marks Refuge Association, Inc. (Friends of St. Marks), Post Office Box 368, St Marks, Florida 32355 or to Birdsong Nature Center, 2106 Meridian Road 322, Thomasville, GA 31792
